Bulone Resort

Independant Review

Introduction

This resort was badly affected by the monsoon storms last year. In July 2009 the front row of bungalows was washed away, making the second row into beachfront bungalows. In October 2009 a big storm coupled with a full-moon tide undermined the eastern third of the restaurant, so it had to be moved.

There is some good swimming in the sea fronting the resort, with a reef with enough coral and fish to keep snorkellers interested for a half day or so. The restaurant here doesn't have the best reputation for speed, but the staff are very friendly.
The resort's trump cards are it's great location, spotless rooms and low prices. It is deservedly very popular, especially with people who come back every year, stay for months at a time, then leave with long faces.

Bulone Resort vs Pansand Resort

These two great resorts are very difficult to choose from, so we've included this section to help you. It's not worth worrying much about which one to book, as they are both good places. Both are very popular, so it's more often a case of which place has room for you, rather than you choosing which place you fancy most.

Difficult as it is to choose between them, let's try. Bulone Resort's bungalows are a bit cheaper than Pansand's but don't include breakfast, so light eaters will wind up roughly equal in total cost, whereas breccy trenchermen will be better off at Pansand. The Pansand's grounds and restaurant are certainly more attractive, and the staff are more attentive. They are both located on good beaches, with Bulone Resort's beach being slightly superior, as it has better snorkelling - though that's not really a benefit, as the guests of either resort can snorkel on the other resort's beach, which is only 5 minutes walk away.

"It's a hard call, this one, but on balance I'd choose the Pansand if I could get a Lide Beachfront, otherwise I'd go for a Bulone Resort Beachfront Bungalow. If I couldn't get either of these then I'd take the next best option Pansand could offer me"

Acccommodation

Beachfront Bungalow

These great fan bungalows are spotlessly clean and occupy great beachfront locations. As at May 2010 the beds had fairly new mattresses and very clean mosquito nets. Half of them have large balconies, while the balconies of the other half are only half the size.

It's a wothwhile benefit to get one of the large balconies, because the chances are that you will be spending a fair ammount of time on it, admiring the view, reading a book, or taking an impromptu nap. These bungalows are extremely popular, so it's unlikely you'll get one unless you book, as they all get booked up well in advance.

2nd Row Bungalow

These are larger than the Beachfront Bungalows, but lack the great location. The extra size isn't much use, so it's best to choose a Beachfront Bungalow, if one is still available.

Family Bungalow

Each of these units consists of a pair of connecting rooms, each of which contains a double bed. Clean and smart but in no way luxurious, they have large terraces with lots of comfortable chairs on them.
