Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and stores. All stores and restaurants add 3% to the bill.
ATM’s (automatic teller machines) are present in a variety of colours and in a multitude of unexpected locations. Koh Lipe, contrary to popular belief, does have an ATM, but Koh Lao Liang does not.
When staying in or walking around busy streets such as Bangkok’s Khao Sarn or Patpong roads, be wary of pickpockets. In the rest of the country, though, your wallet is generally safe. In the event that an ATM eats your card, your wallet falls into the sea or you fall asleep on the beach and wake up naked, you can cancel your card by calling the following numbers:
