Krabi Town

A pleasant if unprepossessing place, Krabi Town’s most important attribute is that its airport is the gateway which offers easy access to the most diverse range of destinations in southern Thailand. Whether you like your beach resort luxurious or laid-back, posh or pristine, all you have to do is to fly to Krabi and you’re spoiled for choice. Whatever sports you are looking for, bar snow-skiing, is available by either a short drive (to Ao Nang) or a boat ride (to Koh Phi Phi, Koh Jum / Koh Puh, Koh Lanta, or the incomparable Railay).

The town has three major crossroads. Adjacent to all of them are a pair of large concrete columns, atop which are three different pairs of statues. On top of the two columns on the town’s largest crossroads is a pair of big-nosed, huge and hairy humanoids – maybe the sculptor’s impishly irreverent impression of the first Westerners to come to town.
