If you are looking for an intimate hideaway experience where the only people you see are each other, you may well just have found it. At 5 minutes car ride along the cliff tops south of Kamala beach, suspended above a steeply sloping hillside showcasing sweeping views of the Andaman, the Ayara is a classy resort that offers one room type that is an excellent choice for romance.
With a consummately professional and extensive pampering menu available from the Ratana Spa, which boasts a heart shaped Jacuzzi with an ocean panorama from the VIP couples’ treatment room, your honeymoon hideaway is complete.
The tranquillity found here is partly spoiled by the incongruent use of what can only be described as Astro-turf (plastic grass) in many of the open spaces, and even in the villas. This is however a small flaw which almost everybody will agree can, at the reasonable prices charged, be overlooked.
The resort has a shuttle service to Kamala beach twice daily and on request 24hours. With a restaurant, tennis court, fitness room and great views from the bar the completeness, this resort lacks only a beach - the constructed one at the rocky base of the hill just does not satisfy. If you would like to stay on a beach, look elsewhere – for couples the Andaman White Beach resort is a good choice.
There are three room types here at the Ayara.
Grand Deluxe Ocean View
This is not worth booking as for a little extra you get a Grand Deluxe Ocean View With Pool.
The images in this section also show what the Grand Deluxe Ocean View With Pool looks like.
Grand Deluxe Ocean View with Pool
The Grand Deluxe Ocean View with Pool has more to offer and is customizable if travelling with a family, as each block has a connecting door between identical suites. This resort is however not particularly family-friendly as there is no beach. The bathroom is fabulous, separated from the bedroom by heavy sliding wooden shutters.
The private pool is long enough for a few strokes. The terrace has not been able to avoid being clad in the gaudy astro-turf we dislike so much - the bare cement beneath would have been an improvement. The astro-turf notwithstanding, these are a wonderful and reasonably priced choice for a romantic and totally private room offering great views as well as privacy.
Combining perfect privacy with a view requires the room to be built on a hillside, so these hillside units are great options for romance.
If a room is nearer the beach, privacy can only be achieved by walling the room in, thus making it claustrophobic. Honeymooners are thus advised to choose rooms not on the beach, but on hillsides instead.
Grand Pool Villa Ocean View
This unit has 2 rooms (of which one is a bedroom), an infinity pool and a terrace carpeted in luxuriant astro-turf.
A full kitchen is provided, but no-one is going to use it as the nearest market is 20 minutes away, although there is a chef on call in the resort for in-villa dining.
The bathroom in these villas have a great deal of wasted space and the furniture is frankly shoddy, (when this writer opened the sliding patio door, the 3 feet tall room divider almost blew over). For the money charged we would suggest you book elsewhere, as you will only be disappointed here.
The above rates are net per room per night and inclusive of service charge.
