Koyao Island Resort, Koh Yao Noi
Independant Review
 |
The Koyao Island resort only has sufficient amenities to qualify as a four-star resort, but those that it does have are in the 5-star bracket. |
Whilst the elegant ambience, the spaciousness and the tasteful décor throughout the resort will impress the guest, what will wow most visitors most is the great location of the resort, and the stunning villas. Located right on the beach and facing east across Phang Nga Bay, the Koyao Island Resort gets one of the best views of any resort on the island, and indeed in the whole of Thailand. The scenery looking eastwards from Koh Yao, of karst islands rearing out of the sea, forms one of the most impressive seascapes in Thailand.

Only a small number of bungalows are dotted around the resort’s spacious grounds, a low density well suited to inducing relaxation in even the most stressed out of visitors. The lasting impression is one of space, combined with peace and quiet. The bungalows all have sea-views, and all are located only 20 metres or so from the beach, separated from the sea by a broad swathe of manicured lawn. Numerous mature coconut palm trees provide welcome shade and enhance the tropical atmosphere.

There are two four-star resorts on Koh Yao Noi, this one and the Paradise resort. Whilst the Paradise Resort benefits from a better beach and more convenient location for sporting day-trips, the Koyao Island Resort’s more accessible location make it easier to reach the island’s few amenities. The Koyao Island Resort is an excellent choice for families, providing much more suitable accommodation than the Paradise Resort does.

Unusually for a luxury resort, the Koyao Island does not have air-conditioning. This is not an issue, except maybe for visitors arriving directly from the Arctic Circle, but some visitors in the hot months from April to July may find this a problem. A constant sea-breeze blows directly into the airy bungalows, which have airy and lofty roofs to dispel heat. Almost everybody quickly adjusts to the higher night-time temperature and benefits during the daytime from the acclimatization that happens to their bodies at night. This acclimatization is an especially good thing if the visitor wants to do anything energetic during the day, like maybe taking advantage of the excellent soft and extreme adventure day-trips available – click here for more information.

The single-bedroom villas at the Koyao Island Resort all have a sea-view, visible from the bed through large French doors. The only struggle the visitor will have will be getting up, as the scene from the bed, of a karst seascape framed by swaying palms, is not one from which the guest will want to drag themselves. At sunrise this is undoubtedly one of the finest tropical views in the world. These bungalows are beautifully decorated and furnished, but very private people may not like the fact that the lawn in front of the bungalows is shared space. Such people are advised to book one of the more private bungalows at the southern end of the resort. If you contact us we’ll make sure you get one of the more private bungalows, plus hopefully an unbeatable price.

The two-bedroom bungalows at the Koyao Island are beautifully crafted from local materials and blend well into the beach, palm and sea setting. All are near the pool and sea, so parents can supervise their children without moving from their bungalow. The large lawn at the front of the resort is ideal for children to run around and expend lots of energy, while their parents lounge around expending very little. For those who don’t want to spend telephone figures of THB at the Evasson, these are the best family rooms on Koh Yao Noi.
The breakfasts here are very good and accompanied by quality bread, a luxury indeed on Koh Yao Noi. Whilst the restaurant is perfectly adequate for lunch and dinner, many visitor eat out, so they at least go out once during their day. |
