Indo-West Pacific: in tropical waters.

Color dusky green dorsally, silvery below; dorsal lobe dusky to dark and evenly pigmented. Upper jaw extending well beyond eye. Midbody scales oval-shaped. Soft dorsal and anal fins with semi-detached finlets. Scales small and lanceolate, partly embedded.

Occasionally found in estuaries. Usually in small groups. Feeds on fishes, cephalopods, and other pelagic prey.
