Pacific Ocean: Andaman Islands to Vanuatu, north to the Philippines, south to northern Australia.

Color blue-green above, silvery to silver-gold below. Very large eyes. Usually shows yellow band. Lower margin of gill opening with a deep furrow. Operculum with black spot. Breast fully scaled. 43-46 large and strong scutes. First 2 anal fin spines detached; pectoral fins falcate.

Occur inshore. Form schools. Feed on planktonic and benthic invertebrates.
