cryptocentrus strigilliceps

Indo-Pacific: East Africa to Samoa, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to the northern Great Barrier Reef.

Head with irregular mottling and thin bands; body with oblique dark bars (Ref. 2798). Large ocellus below the 1st dorsal fin, followed by three smaller ones posteriorly.

Occurs in silty bottoms of lagoon or coastal reefs. Common near areas with terrestrial runoff. Lives with alpheid shrimps. Found in coastal waters, near reefs on sand with rubble.
