Western Central Pacific: Philippines, Malaysia, and northern Australia. Probably including some parts of Indonesia. Recently recorded from Tonga.

Ochre mid-lateral stripe and a thin bright yellow line along back. Juveniles with pale head and yellow body.

Common in shallow waters along mangrove shores to 6-7 m.
