Ang Thong Marine Park
One of the most popular day-trips from Samui (and sailboat charters from Koh Tao) is to the forty picturesque islands that make up Ang Thong Marine Park, one of the most scenic tropical archipelagos in southeast Asia. Sandy beaches entice the lethargic, while a multi-coloured underwater world beckons the more energetic. Turquoise lagoons hide among towering cliffs capped with dense vegetation, while pods of dolphins play in sheltered bays.
In one of the best days out that Thailand has to offer, kayaking under and around the islands’ weird and wonderful rock formations is followed by a hike up to the 240 metre-high peak of one of the islands. From here a magnificent panorama of Koh Mae’s pea-green lake and of the entire archipelago unfolds.
Ang Thong is so lovely that it is best experienced during low season, as during high season it is inundated with visitors.
