There are two Best Western Resorts in Ao Nang, this one and the Best Western Ao Nang Bay.Neither of them are particularly great, nor offer good value for money. Our advice is to go stay somewhere else.
The Best Western Ban Ao Nang is conveniently situated near the beach and amenities. While the pool is sizeable, so is the number of rooms in the resort, so guests must arise early in high season to be sure of a pool lounger.
The decor of this uninspiring resort won't wow anybody, and it is overdue for a major renovation.
The smiley staff work hard, valiantly trying to keep the rooms looking and smelling good, but can do nothing about the state of the air-cons, many of which are old and noisy.
The grounds are well kept and leafy. As this is an older resort, the vegetation has had time to mature. This looks nice when walking around the resort, but means that the lower floor rooms are gloomy.
Accommodation
Standard
These very basic rooms are overpriced and likely to disappoint. They have miniscule balconies barely large enough to contain the 2 virtually kindergarten-sized chairs on them, so making the balconies effectively useless. The lower floor rooms are gloomy.
Superior
These rooms are innocuously decorated and furnished. While they won't wow anybody, there's nothing particularly wrong with them either, unless you get one with a clanky air-con. There are better alternatives than this room type available in Ao Nang in this price band, but if these better alternatives are all full, most people will find one of these rooms acceptable, provided we can get hold of one of the ones without a noisy aircon and in one of the better locations.
Many of these rooms are overshadowed by foliage and so gloomy, so one of the upper floor rooms are recommended (there are 3 floors, and no lifts). The best rooms of this type are the ones that directly overlook the pool - not the ones with the miniscule pool-view in the adjoining building, but the ones right in front of the pool.
These are light and airy inside and a good choice, provide you don't mind a bit of noise from the children in the pool. If you don't fancy being woken up every morning by children playing, choose a high-floor room in the most distant building from the pool.
Family Unit
These units consist of 2 rooms, so parents can close their bedroom door for night-time privacy.
There is only one bathroom. Better value family accommodation is available at the Timber House Resort.
